The "Who Am I" Project

It's so important for Seniors, teens and tweens to know how valued they are!  I remember how it felt to be that age and I have two daughters who are in this age group.  It's so important that they feel loved, valued and of great worth.  That's why I am doing the "Who Am I" Project.  I want to take photos of the youth will see what the rest of us see, AN AMAZING PERSON!

I recently did a photoshoot of a teenager who felt self conscious of your square jaw line.  Her mom was concerned that her daughter wouldn't let her buy large prints of the family photos to hang in their home.  I could totally relate to her because I have a square jawline that was even more pronounced when I was a teen in into the college years.  I was on a mission to bring out the sweet beautiful girl in the photos that she is but doesn't quite see in herself.  So we took the photos and had an amazing time.  She even had some fun posing ideas. Her mom told me after the photo shoot that she loves the photos and was more than happy to have them enlarged and displayed on their walls.  Yay!  I feel so excited about that!  That's what this is all about.

So with this project I will put a watermark on one or more of the youth's photos that is a direct quote from a parent or grandparent.  I'll will do my best to bring out their personality and their sparkle in their eyes.  To get more info about the Who Am I Project and/or book an appointment email me at sharisse@photographybysharisse.com or text/call me at 951-526-8118

Get Clear Pictures

Get Clear Pictures

When using point and click or smart phone cameras, the number one complaint from people is how to get clearer images.  Do you find yourself trying to capture the perfect shot, only to find that everyone in the shot is blurry?  That can be so frustrating.  Try these quick tips the next time you find yourself in a photographic moment and see if your images come out much clearer!

Tip 1 - Light up your subject.  Whether this means going outside, going closer to a window, or moving into the available light in the room, the better lit your subject is the crisper the image will turn out.

Tip 2 - Hold still, and with both hands.  Our smart phones can be so small and lightweight that we find ourselves shooting pictures one handed.  The movement from your hand can be a big reason for blurriness in your images.  The next time you shoot, try holding the camera with both hands and holding it very still.  You’ll be surprised what a difference it can make.

Tip 3 - Clean your lens.  Smart phone cameras can get gunky lenses quickly when we keep them in our pockets, purses, cup holders in the car, and let the kids play with them.   Regularly clean your lens and you will be able to create the best and clearest images possible.

My oldest is a TEENAGER!

I have a confession to make... my oldest child is now a teenager and I am no good at the teen thing.  We have already got on many roller coasters of emotion and I've got now answers, nada!  Heaven help me! All I know about raising teens is what I remember from being one.  Cambri and I are very different so I have to work really hard at relating to her.  One of the reasons I chose to get into photography is because it is one area where we have common ground.  She is extremely interested in every aspect of my business.  She stand over my shoulder as I sit at my computer editing photos.  She says things like, "add more contrast....lower the shadows".  I just do it so that she'll be happy.  Then I change it back later.  Sometimes she had really great ideas.  She's very good at anything to do with technology so she helped me figure out Instagram and she helps me edit video as well.  I bring her on photoshoots to hold the reflector.  So, when I'm pulling my hair out, I find comfort in knowing that when it comes to photography we are very united and can enjoy our time together!!

Josh and Wynter's Wedding

So far I have mostly been a family photographer with some headshots, events, newborns and seniors mixed in.  Last weekend I did a wedding for the first time!  My friend's photographer backed out from doing her daughter's wedding at the last second.  I was a great experience.  I definitely reached outside my comfort zone and learned a lot!!  To see the full gallery go to: https://photographybysharisse.pixieset.com/wedding/

Cell Phone Photography Tips

Group Pictures

You know how it goes.  You’re at an event, whether it be a wedding, a family reunion, or a party.  Whatever the situation is, you are with a group of people who you have not seen in awhile and you desperately need a group photo.  You set everyone up and think that you have everything right, but then when you look at the photo afterward, everyone’s face is blurry, someone’s head is cut off, and it looks like you shined an awkward flashlight on everyone and for some reason they all look green!

Here’s what you can do to make group photos turn out better.  For one, if it’s at all possible, move to a window or some other source of natural light so that everyone looks more naturally lit. If you are outside, find shade to stand in or have your back to the sun to avoid squinty eyes.  As the photographer, stand with your back to the window.  You’ll see a world of difference.  Also as a simple trick, most phones have facial recognition.  Just tap on people’s faces until it focuses.  Next, if you’re taking a selfie, get the person with the longest arm to take the photo, and have them take it from the top.  It makes everyone look just a bit thinner and it’s easier to not cut people’s faces out.

I hope this is helpful!
